Archives report on NERAASA 2017
I attended the twenty sixth NERAASA held in Framingham Massachusetts. It was hosted by Area 30 Eastern Massachusetts, the theme was Supporting our Future. I was there as Archives chair for Area 47. The purpose of NERAASA is for GSR’S,DCM’S Area committee members, officers and IG/Central office Reps of the North Eastern region to meet. Discussions include General service conference issues and concerns affecting AA as a whole.
There were 6 panels presenting on. Communication. Safety. Literature. Communication outreach. Conference topics. Spirituality and money. I was impressed with the contents and presentation of each panelist. All did a great job with background information and well researched presentations which was very informative. I attended Friday and Saturday nights roundtable discussions for Archives. Being new to Archives,it was an educational experience for me. The roundtables were well attended, mostly by archivists. The general consensus was that Archives is a slow and long process on any project undertaken. I brought up the question about oral histories . There was a great deal of feedback, with some very good practical suggestions. We also discussed digitalizing and preserving archival material. NERAASA is an annual event open to all AA members. I definitely recommend attending, it is a packed full weekend of information and fellowship, not to be missed. Thank you for allowing me to serve. Laurie Archives char
Thank you for your excellent report. It demonstrated the value of what you learn and what you can share with others. It helps us fulfill our primary purpose. I hope it encourages others to attend a future NERAASA.
