2023 NERAASA Report-03/02/2023
Wow, Great experience to share with close to 1,000.00 trusted servants. Registration open Thursday night 7p.m. The lines were long. I made my first connection with NERAASA Chairman and discussed my sighted guide request. By the time we got Registered we missed the Red Ball meeting. I fellowshipped with other Area47 attendees.
The panel topics were a little confusing to me this year. once I began listening to the presenters, things began to make since. I love how a step, a tradition and a concept was noted for each Panel.
Panel: One Solution for All – S12 Love & Tolerance, T5 Purpose, C9 Vision
Topics:
- Pamphlets: one message at a time
- Anonymous, Not Secret – Developing Relationships with Friends of AA
- One Program, Many Languages, _ Reaching future AAs Through Translation
There was a lot of discussion on the Plain language, BB. And we were reminded we should never leave anyone behind.
Panel: Expressing an Ageless Message – S9 Justice, T7 Responsibility, C4 Participation
Topics:
- Safe In AA
- The Cost of Doing Business
- Setting Policy for Editing our Founder’s writings
It was brought to our attention safety is much more than just 13th stepping. Like are you going to meeting with a common cold and affecting others (AA as a whole). Am I supporting everyone in my Home Group who wants to get sober. Great presenter! Cost of doing Business, who knew? Moving the General Service Office. There is a committee working on this project. 2022 the committee looked at venues. 2023 Research will be reviewed and 2024 a decision will be made as the lease expires at Riverside Drive. Another Great Presenter! One of our Area47’s GSR (Eileen).
Panel:
Change NERAASA? Why Not?
Topics:
- Moving Roundtables Around
- Do We Even Need Panels
- What Else Can We Do
This panel was related to NERAASA inventory. General consensus, Round tables are most popular. We need panels and bringing Ask it Basket back might be helpful. GSO staff once sat on panels, might be nice to see them participate again. What else can we do? – Have a a Accessibility Chair. I spoke at the mic, as a sight impaired attendee, I offered a suggestion for folks with special needs to possibly connect with a contact prior to the event. This would eliminate stress & the feeling like a burden.
Round Tables:
I attended the CPC early round table. It was packed. There was a lot of discussion on QR codes and digital out reach. There was some discussion on how to get started as a new committee chair. Get the work book kit.
A few highlights from the NERT: (North East Regional Trustee)) report:
Some History here in the North East Region:
- The birthplaces of two Vermonters, Bill (E. Dorset) and Bob (St. Johnsbury)
- Stepping Stones, the home of Bill and Lois, is located in Katonah, NY
- And, of course, our General Service Office is in the Northeast, too
Online contributions have grown
GSO Bus Trips are back. Please contact the Office ahead of time at: gsotours@aa.org or (212) 870-3430.
Saturday night Banquet:
I did not attend. The Audio was difficult, however we caught some of the speaker and she delivered a powerful message.
Overall, another wonderful opportunity for growth and very grateful for the Greeters Chair for her sighted guide orientation around the facility. Having a contact to address my special needs made a world of difference in feeling a part of the great whole.
In Loving Service,
Liza C / Area47 CPC Chair
