Delegate’s Report to Area Assembly, February 9, 2020
I attended the General Service Board (GSB) weekend January 31 – February 3rd which is when the trustees finalized the General Service Conference (GSC) agenda. It was amazing to see how it all worked and to get to be a part of it! The trustees were extremely welcoming to the delegates in attendance, being extremely generous with their time in answering our questions and were totally open to our feedback.
Things I learned, in no particular order:
Our bylaws call for the GSB to meet in the state of NY immediately after the GSC. Unless that could be changed it would prevent the GSC from being held in a state in another part of the country.
Once videos are posted to YouTube you can’t change them, which has hampered the effort to embed searchable recovery words into the files (i.e. – a current video title is “Doors”, not a word you would Google to find help with a drinking problem, this effort would have helped with that)
The IRS has new regulations that will require us to quantify the monetary value of our PSAs that are aired.
The PI committee is investigating online PSAs.
LaVina subscriptions are up as are the number of stories that are being submitted.
We went over budget last year, mostly because of the new ERP computer management system. Last year was also record breaking in the amount of contributions we received, including the first time we received over $1 million from online contributions.
Box 459 costs $400,000 a year to send out.
In other news, the New York State Informational Workshop will be held July 31 – Aug 2nd, 2020 in Amherst, NY. Online registration will open April 1st.
Respectfully submitted,
