Thank you to our host district the 0600’s
Informational Items
The Northeast Regional Trustee will be rotating out following the completion of the 69th General Service Conference next April. If you are interested in standing for the position, resumes must be submitted, by the delegate, to the General Service Office by December 31, 2018. The position is a four-year term. For further information please contact me.
The General Service Office (GSO) is in the process of upgrading its business systems by integrating diverse functions into a single platform. These changes will improve: literature ordering and fulfillment; the contribution process; and maintenance of service records. In addition, the database utilized by Registrars, Fellowship New Vision, will eventually be replaced (try and hold the cheering down). Also, there will be no printing of the 2018 directories, because of the installation of the new data base. Printing of directories is scheduled to resume in 2019.
Because of a delay in paper manufacturing (world-wide) that could affect book reprints, GSO is taking proactive actions to minimize disruptions. But delays may occur.
Report and Charter Committee
The Report and Charter committee, of which I am a member, is the only conference committee that continues to work post-conference. We are each assigned for review portions of drafts of the conference final report and revisions to the Service Manual. Our work will conclude by the end of June.
Where Have I Been?
0200 Districts Workshop, in Manchester, April 7. This was a very-well attended service event and it was an honor to be asked to participate in the workshop. It was my impression that the attendees appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the importance of groups participating in general service and the work of the district.
Love and Service group, Rochester, April 14. The group, as they have done annually for several years reviewed agenda items for the 68th General Service Conference. The format they use involves many members of the group. Agenda items are assigned to “teams,” which review the background material, and come to an informed conscience. One person from the team then presents this information to the group. This is the fourth time I have attended their pre-conference meeting, twice as a delegate. Their presentations are done in PowerPoint and I was given a copy which I did consult during the conference to refresh my memory. There was a great deal of good input and I very much appreciate their commitment to service.
68th General Service Conference, New York City, April 21-28.
Delegates report to the area, Rochester, May 19. My report to the area is available on the CNY website. It was a great privilege to represent the area and I thank you for the opportunity to do so. Thank you to the Rochester Districts Meeting, 0800, for hosting the meeting.
Districts 0500 meeting, Corning, June 2. I presented a report on the conference. The meeting was well attended. The district is very active. It covers a very large geographic area including parts of Pennsylvania. I also spoke at a meeting later that evening. Thank you to the district for the opportunity to share on the conference.
Where am I Going?
14th Annual Sober Campout in Addison, I will be attending on June 23. The event is from June 22 – 24. For more information see website: www.aaelmira.org. There will be meetings and speakers, and a young people’s panel from Rochester and Binghamton. There will be plenty of great food and fun activities. I look forward to the event. And I am not going to wear a suit and tie!
39th Annual New York State Informational Workshop, Utica, July 27-29. Hosted by Area 48, Hudson, Mohawk, Berkshire. This is a service weekend each summer that rotates between the four service areas in NY State where trusted servants and committee chairs meet to exchange information and ideas on how to effectively carry out our Primary Purpose. Anyone in service, whether at the group, district or area level, as well as anyone interested in learning more about general service is welcome to attend. Cost wise this is the best bang for your buck in A.A. All-in single occupancy is $180, and it includes registration and five meals. My first workshop was in 2002, and I have only missed 3 in the years since. I also chaired the 2013 workshop. So, I think it is obvious that I love this event. I hope you will attend and I look forward to hearing our committee chairs present on their panels. For more information see website: www.aahmbny.org
Three Legacies Workshop, Binghamton, September 15. The workshop is hosted by the 0600’s. I will be presenting on Service. I very much look forward to the workshop and appreciate the invitation to share my experience, strength and hope.
Closing Remarks
With the conclusion of the general service conference and the report back to the area my service event commitments begin to lighten up and there is less travel. I have enjoyed this experience immensely and I think that I am a better person because of it. I have learned repeatedly to be grateful for what I have and to do my best to uphold the traditions of our great fellowship and to carry the life saving message of recovery from alcoholism.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your delegate! – Joe S., Delegate, P67/A47 CNY.
