Delegate’s Report to Area Assembly, November 10, 2019

Here’s this month’s GSO news:

There is a new ASL video of the Big Book available now. It “incorporates current language and signing most familiar in today’s deaf culture”. It features ASL and subtitles, with an audio track in English. It is available on DVD – you can order it from aa.org.

I have additional information about the proposed renovations/expansion at the General Service Office in NYC. There are several reasons for them needing additional space:

1.) Staff growth. In 2012 there were 74 employees, in 2016 there were 79, and now there are 91. Now that we translate the General Service Conference background materials into French and Spanish, we have new translators on staff, and we have additional staff working on our newer social media services

2.) The server room was overheating and crashing servers, so the room needs cooling.

3.) There is a new law that requires the office to, I swear this is true, have a lactation room available for employees with babies.

The board has authorized spending a maximum of $1 million on the renovations and also signing a lease for additional space in the building through December 31, 2024, which is concurrent with the existing 11^th floor lease.

Registration for the 2020 Northeast Regional AA Service Assembly is open now on their website, http://www.neraasa.org/neraasa-2020-online-registration.html. I will have hard copy fliers available next month.

In terms of Area Events:

The DCM summit was held on Saturday, November 2, with 14 people in attendance, plus myself, Todd D. and Carrie C. The feedback was very positive and I know I got a lot out of it.

I’m thrilled to announce, on my 4^thattempt, I finally made it! I was able to give a General Service Conference report back to the Hilltop Group in the men’s Elmira correctional facility! It was really special.

There will be a Corrections Connections held on November 22^nd at Willard. All are welcome but you have to pre-register.
