Delegates Report to Area Assembly: Period of September 10, to October 8, 2017
Thank you to our host district, 0600s, including Patricia S, DCM 0670, for their hospitality and service to the assembly.
Welcoming panel 68 Delegates
Over the last several weeks Areas have been electing their new panel 68 delegates. Here in New York State, Area 50 WNY Chuck B and Area 48 HMB Don S have been elected to serve as delegates. I do send all newly elected delegates a welcoming email.
DCM Summit
Registration is ongoing for the DCM Summit. The date is Saturday, November 4, from 10 AM until 3 PM. The location is St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 135 Hamilton St., Penn Yan, NY 14527.
The purpose of the summit is to better fulfill our primary purpose through AA group participation in general service. We intend to educate, encourage, and empower our DCM’s. Attendees include DCM’s, Alternate DCM’s and Interim DCM’s. And any member of AA is invited to attend, although the focus is on the role of the DCM.
If you are interested in attending please let me know and I will provide you with the registration form and also the pre-work. The pre-work includes some readings and gathering information about the current state of service activities in the district.
The agenda will include interactive topic discussions, including: the qualities of a leader in AA, supporting the GSR, and stimulating interest in group participation in general service.
The summit is a collaborative effort of the delegate, alternate delegate and area chair. Thank you to Barb C and Carrie C for their input and assistance.
Where Have I Been?
I had no speaking commitments in the month of September.
Where am I Going?
Rochester District Meeting Day of Sharing on October 14. I will be sharing on a panel regarding connections to AA as a whole.
DCM Summit: Saturday, November 4, from 10 AM until 3 PM. The location is St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 135 Hamilton St., Penn Yan, NY 14527.
Empire State Convention of Young People in AA (ESCYPAA) November 10-12, Albany. On my own initiative I registered for this convention and I look forward to attending.
Corrections Connection, Friday December 1, Wende Correctional Facility, Alden, NY. This is an all day event which is being organized by the Rochester Intergroup corrections committee with the participation of Area 47 and Area 50, WNY. Wally E, Delegate Area 50 will also be attending.
Trustees and General Service Board of AA 2018 1st Quarterly Meeting
All 13 Delegate committee chairpersons, including myself, of the 68th General Service Conference have been invited to attend the 2018 first quarterly meeting of the trustees and the general service board of AA.
(I am delegate chair of the International Conventions and Regional Forums committee.) The meetings begin on Friday, January 26 and conclude on Monday, January 29. They will be held in New York City. I am looking forward to attending as I am sure that this will be the one and only opportunity I will have to attend a board meeting. And, it will be interesting to see how the conference agenda is prepared.
Pending legal matter: Printer’s Copy Manuscript of Alcoholics Anonymous
I have received no new information regarding this legal matter. Please check with me if you have any questions. I reported at the assembly that October 25 is the date that the parties to the litigation must report to the court the status of their discussions. However, subsequent to the assembly I understand that the date has been further extended.
Grapevine: Subscribe Now!
I believe it is very important that you subscribe to the Grapevine. Even if you don’t read it, give your copy to your local corrections or treatment committee and they will see to it that is given to someone who needs it. It is our meeting in print and it is very helpful to the sobriety and recovery of individuals in correctional and treatment facilities
Closing Remarks
I’m very grateful to have this opportunity to serve the area as delegate. It has enriched my life beyond my wildest dreams. I can only hope that you also are being enriched by your service to AA. As I have said before, in my service manual I have added to the delegates job description: “It is suggested that the delegate be happy, joyous, and free!” Thank you for your service and thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve. – Joe S, Delegate, P67/A47 CNY
Thank you for your report, Joe. I really appreciate its depth and thoroughness, since I was unable to attend our Assembly. Also appreciate the addition to your job description; I’ll add it to mine!
Thank you, Mary!
