NERD 2015—Alternate Delegate’s Report
NERD 2015, hosted by General Service Committee of Area 61 in Newport RI was a team building, low key, intimate event. During the event each Panel 64 Delegate told their story; and the NERT, Gary L. was our dinner speaker Saturday night. Next year will be the Panel 65 Delegates’ turn to share their stories.
The opening Red Ball meeting was for sharing about ourselves and our Area. Bonding from the get go. Nightly sessions for the NERT and Panel 64/65 Delegates/Alt Delegates provided opportunity to ask new questions about the Conference or go over items not yet clear.
Saturday “free time” I joined others on a tour of the Mansions of Newport. We went inside The Breakers which was the beautiful opulent home of Cornelius Vanderbilt.
But we AA’s are not a glum lot as evidenced by the crowning of the SWAMBO (She who must be obeyed) complete with Tiara and Cape AND a trophy passed to the elected SU. Much to-do and fun for all.
The Sobriety Countdown Saturday night had one man with 50 years of sobriety. Amazing! The bond of serving as Delegate was obvious among the many Past Delegates in attendance.
I kind of know what it must be like to be the VP – necessary but not yet. I am proud to serve; but don’t stop praying for the good health of our Delegate Vicky!
Respectfully submitted,
Anita L., Alternate Delegate
Isn’t it helpful and exciting at the same time, to be with these many different people waiting to see what’s next? I had the good fortune to serve as alternate with Liz and attend, and meet people at NERD but didn’t get to attend again until I was Delegate so I had now met delegates from four panels, It’s great to see these people whenever I go to someplace new. It’s also neat to see that Our Area is not the “End All, Be All” of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Thank you for your continued service to Area 47,
Tom
